So... are you seeing anyone?

I'm not sure if it's about me turning 23 this year, or if people feel that 2012 is just around the corner and the world could be ending ... but The Relationship Question (TRQ) has been in the thick of conversation topics of late.

Maybe it's the whole Chinese New Year spirit infusing itself into talking points - because, as most Chinese people will know, meeting with your (nosy) relatives is bound to see the conversation turning to, "So, do you have a boyfriend?" And if you do have a boyfriend/girlfriend, it'll be "So, when are you getting married?"

It always starts with a "So...", because it's what they really meant to ask you about in the first place. "So" is the shortcut key in conversations when you're trying to stick a pre-planned sentence into whatever you're saying.

I think the first time I noticed the newfound TRQ emphasis was a couple of months ago when An's older sister was shopping for rings, and she was adamant on not wearing a ring on her ring finger in case it gave guys the impression that she was unavailable. Hahaha!

So... when a guy asks me if I'm single, or when someone tries to set me up with the owner of a toy store, I don't quite know how to react. Now that CNY is approaching, single girls are plastering their Facebook walls with clever, snide responses to annoying aunties ("So, when are you getting married?" "Oh, didn't I invite you to my wedding?").

On the bright side though, it would be really, really cool to meet the owner of a toy store. :D (I don't mean Toys "R" Us kind of toy store lah.)

P.S: This is one of the side effects of watching The Office, you get all sappy and romantic after gushing at Jim and Pam. They are so sweet, seriously. Pam made Jim a comic book and I thought he was going to cry. Heeeee.
