Hi! :]
It hasn't been that long since my last update, heheh, some of you make it sound like this blog's been collecting cobwebs for months! :P
All right, it's a usual Wednesday -- but today's special.
Why?
Because we had our first milestone today. My study group had our first study group meeting today. :] I feel pleased. Yup. It was fun. We're all great mates, so we had a lot of laughs and got actual work done: we discussed our Constitutional & Administative Law Tutorial 1 and Land Law Tutorial 1 questions. Present were FJ, Cheryl, Rachel, and yours truly. Absent was Mei Chieng. Hahahah. Rachel was going to skip the study group meeting (hereinafter "S.G.M."), 'cause she hadn't prepped her tutes yet (our group has tutorials Thursday & Friday) but we managed to persuade her to stay and join us for the discussion. :]
Anyway, personally, I thought the discussion was good in the sense that it pointed out to me which aspects of the topic that I wasn't so clear on -- like, I thought I had the constitutional arrangements reading nailed, but it turned out I didn't have my definitions in line yet! :/
And I haven't finished studying the second topic for Land Law (Estates & Interests in Land) yet, but Faan Jin and Cheryl have, so being only halfway through I think I'll have a better idea when I get through the rest of the topic with my faithful friend Mark P. Thompson. :] He's the author of my Land Law textbook, by the way -- not my actual friend.
Turns out the fee simple is the only kind of estate that can have legal ownership, or something like that. Shoot. I need to study. I thought I was so far behind, but it turned out Ms Usha (my Land Law lecturer) only finished Topic 2 today. I thought she finished it last week! I am so blur! After the lecture today, my friends and I were all:
'OHHHHH NOW only we finish Topic 2 lectures .........................'
Tomorrow we are starting Topic 3 already. Registration. :]
We also started Topic 2 for Equity & Trusts today: Equity Principles Part 2. Yeah that's the name of the topic. Hahahahhahaha. We learnt about the bona fide purchaser of a legal estate for valuable consideration without notice, whether actual or constructive, of the equitable interest. This bona fide purchaser dude is also, interestingly, known as "equity's darling". Hehehhehe.
And ... where are we now for Consti & Admin? We're at Topic 2. Today we learnt about the Separation of Powers and the Sovereignty of Parliament. The "software" of the constitution. Heheheh. :]
Last but certainly not least, International Law is pretty cool. Yeah. Hahaha. Law can be cool! International law, i.e. "the law of nations" as per Malcolm Shaw, is a truly global encounter. It's a 20-credit module (as opposed to my other subjects, which are worth 30 credits --> that means more work needs to be put in) sooo ... hopefully it'll be the "semi-relaxing" subject. Or maybe I'm wrong, and all subjects are equally demanding. Anyway, we've covered the "Sources of Int'l Law" and are now on the 2nd topic on "The Law of Treaties".
If anyone's interested, the sources of international law are like customary international law, treaties, general principles of law, judicial decisions, writings of highly qualified publicists (writers, basically, like Ian Brownlie), and resolutions -- like from the General Assembly or the Security Council of the United Nations. 'Tis pretty interesting. :]
Okay, that's all for now! I hope that I've prodded some interest in those of you who are thinking of studying law. :]
It's worth it.
The only warning I can give you is this: don't take law if you don't like reading. Hehehe!
Have a good week! :]
P.S: Congratulations again to sweet An Nie! She got around 100% for her tests!! :D I am super prouuuuuudd of you! :]
